What is a used car warranty?

A warranty is your protection against the cost of unexpected mechanical or electrical failure after you buy your car. If a covered part fails, your warranty pays to repair or replace it — parts and labour — so a sudden fault doesn't become a sudden bill.

It's important to understand what a warranty is for: it covers sudden failure of a component that was working normally, not the gradual wear and tear that comes with using any car, and not routine servicing items. Think of it as cover for the "what if it goes wrong" — the expensive, unexpected faults — rather than day-to-day maintenance.

Every car we sell at LMC includes a 3-month comprehensive warranty as standard, at no extra cost — and that means full parts, labour and VAT cover on repairs, not just the price of a part. You can extend that cover to 12 or 24 months with our Crystal Clear Warranty, or go all-in with our Premium Package, which wraps 3 years of warranty, servicing, MOTs and paint protection into one. And because we handle claims in-house, if something does go wrong you're speaking to real people who know your car — not a faceless call centre.

Warranty FAQs

Does every car come with a warranty?+

Yes — every car we sell includes a 3-month comprehensive warranty as standard, at no extra cost, alongside the AA Dealer Promise. You can extend the cover with our Crystal Clear Warranty (12 or 24 months) or go all-in with the 3-year Premium Package.

What exactly does the warranty cover?+

Cover focuses on the major mechanical and electrical components — engine, gearbox, steering, braking and electrical systems and more — with full parts, labour and VAT on covered repairs. What it doesn't cover is routine servicing and wear-and-tear items like brake pads and tyres. The exact covered list and terms are set out in your warranty documentation.

What's the Crystal Clear Warranty?+

It's our extended warranty — you can take out 12 or 24 months of cover on top of your standard warranty, with parts, labour and VAT included and a dedicated claims advisor. You can spread the cost interest-free over 4 months. Ideal if you're keeping the car a while or it's a higher-value vehicle.

How do I make a claim?+

Call us or report the issue online with your reg and a description of the fault. We check your cover, assess the car through our own workshop or an approved garage, authorise the covered repair and settle it under your warranty. Claims are handled in-house with a dedicated claims advisor and a fast response.

Do I have to service the car with you to keep the warranty?+

You need to keep the car serviced on schedule and hold the records to keep your warranty valid. A service plan simply makes it effortless and keeps everything in one place — and it's built into the Premium Package.

Is the warranty valid anywhere in the country?+

Yes — repairs can be carried out through our own workshop or a nationwide network of approved garages, so you're covered wherever you are. Always contact us first so the repair can be assessed under your cover.
